The Heavenly Father
When Leslie and I were living in England, we got invited to one of the pastor’s place for dinner. This guy used to be a lawyer, high class English people. When we sat down to the table they had like 10 different eating utensils. I certainly didn’t know what to do with them. As a good Hungarian, I knew how to eat with fork and knife and also how to use the spoon. But this was a little too much. Anyway, as we were talking at the table they shared a story with us. When their boy was little, he had a good friend who always liked to hang out at their house. This boy later became a world famous worship leader. He liked to hang out at this place with their son. He learned about God here and my friend James became his spiritual father. He didn’t like to be at home much, because his Dad was a drunk and occasionally beat him and molested him. This boy’s name is Matt Redman, one of the greatest worship leader. If you listen to his songs you know he knows the Heavenly Father personally and with his songs he draws you to Him. All through his songs, intimacy with the Father is highlighted. Matt learned at an early age through my friends that no matter how he is treated by his earthly father, he has a Heavenly Father who loves him dearly. Sometimes people reflect on the Heavenly Father the experiences they had growing up with their own father. What a terrible mistake to compare our earthly fathers to the all loving God.
